Taproom Sessions: John Spengler

  • Goat Patch Brewing Company 1756 Lake Woodmoor Drive Monument, CO, 80132 United States (map)

Our Taproom Sessions keep the music going through the cooler months with a laid-back live music series built for easy hangs and good beer.

Join us for acoustic/chill sets from local artists, either inside the taproom or outside when the weather’s still playing nice. It’s the same vibe you know—just a little cozier.

Grab a pint, find a spot, and settle in.

John Spengler started playing guitar over 50 years ago. His first guitar teacher was none other than the late great Charlie Bird. In middle school, after leaving the jazz guitar world, he formed a rock band called The Electric Spinach. They performed in seventh and eighth grade dances in the Washington D.C. area. Then, after moving to Colorado from Lahore, Pakistan, at the beginning of his senior year of high school, he played in a number of bands. While attending the University of Colorado Boulder, John continued to play with fellow students and friends, mostly in the dorms. After graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, he returned to the Colorado Springs area and formed the local acoustic duo Sage. During this time he learned to hone his performance skills. Two years later, he formed the popular regional band Lip Service. Lip Service went on to have a great seven-year run performing in Colorado, Wyoming, New Mexico and Arizona. Throughout a number of personnel changes, John remained the front man, ending the band in 1989. Following Lip Service, John worked as a high school science teacher for 31 years, occasionally playing music with colleagues and students. After retiring from education, his interest in song writing and public performances grew. He has released two CD/EPs, Workin’ On It (2017) and What Would You Change? (2019), with one full-length album titled You Can’t Beat Fun! (2024); all comprised of original music.
